About this tool

Open a PDF and see its existing bookmarks, then add new ones at the page you are looking at, rename them, change their page, indent them under a parent, move them up and down or remove them. You can paste a list of chapters with page numbers to add many at once. Save and the PDF has a working outline in any reader.

Why bookmarks

Long documents are far easier to use when a reader can click a chapter and jump there. Bookmarks also show up in the navigation panel of Acrobat, browsers and phone readers.

Quick ways to build them

Press One bookmark per page for a start and rename the ones you need, or paste lines like Chapter 1 | 3. Start a line with two spaces to nest it under the line above. Text in Bangla and other languages works.

Worked example

A 60-page report gets Introduction on page 1, Findings on page 8 with three sub-items, and Appendix on page 52 in under a minute.

Tips for best results

Take a moment to read the options before you start, and try the tool with a small sample first. Everything runs in your browser on your own device, so nothing you type or add is uploaded, and closing the tab clears it. If something does not look right, reload the page and try again, or use the report link on this page to tell us what went wrong so we can fix it. If a result still looks wrong, change one value at a time to see which box matters most. Bookmark this page if you will need the tool again.
