About this tool

Enter your salary and the pay rise in percent. The calculator works out the new salary, the extra gross pay and the extra take-home pay per month after income tax and National Insurance. Rates and thresholds are for the 2026-27 tax year and can change. A guide only, check gov.uk for the official figures.

What it shows

A rise is taxed at your highest rate, so the extra net pay is less than the extra gross. A 5 percent rise on £35,000 adds £1,750 gross, but at 20 percent tax and 8 percent NI you keep about £1,260.

Tips

When a rise takes you over £50,270 the part above is taxed at 40 percent. Pension contributions through salary sacrifice can reduce the tax on a rise. Student loan repayments are not included here.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my pay rise smaller after tax?

The extra is taxed at your top rate and NI is added, so you keep roughly 70 percent of it at basic rate.

Are student loans included?

No. Add 9 percent of the extra above your plan threshold if you have a loan.

Which tax year?

2026-27 for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Does it include pension?

No. Pension deductions from pay would lower the net figure.
