About this tool
Enter your last monthly basic salary (without allowances) and your years of service. The tool uses the UAE labour law method: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after that, with a limit of two years of total wage. Service of less than one year does not earn gratuity.
How the amount is worked out
A daily wage is the monthly basic salary divided by 30. For the first five years you earn 21 days of that daily wage per year; for every year after the fifth, 30 days. A part year is counted in proportion. The total cannot be more than two years of basic salary.
What is not included
Allowances such as housing or transport are normally left out of the gratuity base unless your contract says otherwise. Unpaid leave, resignation timing and special contracts can change the result, and free-zone employers may follow their own rules, so confirm the final figure with your employer or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Worked example
A basic salary of AED 10,000 and 6.5 years of service: daily wage 333.33; first five years 21 × 5 × 333.33 = 35,000; the remaining 1.5 years 30 × 1.5 × 333.33 = 15,000; gratuity AED 50,000, below the cap of 240,000.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.

Frequently asked questions
Which salary should I use?
Use your last monthly basic salary, without housing, transport or other allowances, unless your contract defines the base differently.
Is there a minimum period of service?
Gratuity is paid after at least one year of continuous service. Below one year the tool shows zero.
What is the maximum gratuity?
The total is limited to two years of basic salary.
Is this the same for free zones?
Not always. Free zones such as DIFC and ADGM have their own schemes, so check your contract.
