About this tool
Enter your monthly gross salary. The tool deducts NSSF and SHIF, applies the monthly PAYE bands, the personal relief and the housing levy relief, and shows your PAYE and net pay after the 1.5 percent housing levy.
What is deducted
NSSF is 6 percent of pensionable pay up to KES 72,000. SHIF is 2.75 percent of gross pay with a minimum of KES 300. The affordable housing levy is 1.5 percent of gross pay. PAYE is charged on pay after NSSF and SHIF at 10 percent on the first KES 24,000, 25 percent on the next KES 8,333, 30 percent up to KES 500,000, 32.5 percent up to KES 800,000 and 35 percent above, less the monthly personal relief of KES 2,400.
Good to know
The housing levy relief is taken as 15 percent of the levy. Rules change with each Finance Act, and insurance or mortgage reliefs are not included, so use the result as an estimate.
Worked example
A gross salary of KES 100,000: NSSF 4,320, SHIF 2,750, taxable pay 92,930; PAYE about KES 20,000 after reliefs; net pay about KES 71,400.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
