About this tool

Enter your yearly gross salary and your KiwiSaver contribution rate. The tool applies the New Zealand income tax rates, the ACC earner levy and your KiwiSaver deduction and shows your net pay per year and per month.

The rates used

Income tax: 10.5 percent up to NZ$15,600; 17.5 percent up to NZ$53,500; 30 percent up to NZ$78,100; 33 percent up to NZ$180,000; and 39 percent above. The ACC earner levy is about 1.67 percent of earnings up to the yearly maximum.

KiwiSaver

Choose your employee contribution rate, from 0 to 10 percent. Employer contributions are paid on top and are not part of your take-home pay.

Good to know

Student loan repayments and other deductions are not included. Rates change, so confirm on the IRD website.

Worked example

A salary of NZ$85,000 with KiwiSaver at 3.5 percent: income tax about 17,930, ACC about 1,420, KiwiSaver 2,975; net pay about NZ$62,700 a year.

Tips for best results

Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
