About this tool
Enter your average weekly earnings, the days you work a week and the days off sick. From April 2026 SSP is paid from the first day at the lower of £123.25 a week or 80 percent of average earnings. Rates and thresholds are for the 2026-27 tax year and can change. A guide only, check gov.uk for the official figures.
How it works
SSP is paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks. The weekly amount is divided by your qualifying days to get a daily rate, which is paid for each qualifying day you are off.
Example
On £500 a week the lower figure is £123.25, so for a five-day week the daily rate is £24.65. Ten days off pay £246.50.
Notes
Many employers pay more than SSP as part of the contract. You need to tell your employer in line with their rules, and a fit note is normally needed after 7 days.
