About this tool

Enter a year to list New Zealand's national public holidays, including Waitangi Day, Anzac Day, Matariki and Labour Day. Some are moved to the following Monday when they fall on a weekend, and regions have their own anniversary days.

The holidays

New Year's Day and 2 January, Waitangi Day (6 February), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day (25 April), the King's Birthday (first Monday in June), Matariki (a Friday in June or July), Labour Day (fourth Monday in October), Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Mondayisation

Waitangi Day and Anzac Day are moved to the next Monday if they fall on a weekend, and the same applies to Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year days under the rules set by the Holidays Act.

Matariki

The date of Matariki is set by the government each year. Dates are available through 2040 in this tool.
