About this tool

Enter a gross yearly salary and your KiwiSaver contribution rate. The calculator applies the New Zealand income tax brackets, the ACC earners' levy and the KiwiSaver deduction, and shows net pay per year, month and fortnight.

The brackets

New Zealand tax rates are 10.5 percent up to $15,600, 17.5 percent to $53,500, 30 percent to $78,100, 33 percent to $180,000 and 39 percent above. The ACC earners' levy is about 1.67 percent of earnings up to a yearly cap. KiwiSaver is 3 to 10 percent of gross pay if you are a member.

Example

On $85,000 with 3 percent KiwiSaver, net pay is about $64,300 a year, or $5,360 a month.

Not included

Student loan repayments at 12 percent over the threshold, secondary tax codes and working for families credits are not modelled. Rates are reviewed in the Budget.
