About this tool
Enter your age, whole years of service (2 or more) and your weekly pay before tax. Each year counts half a week under 22, one week from 22 to 40 and one and a half weeks from 41, with weekly pay capped at £751 and 20 years counted. Rates and thresholds are for the 2026-27 tax year and can change. A guide only, check gov.uk for the official figures.
How the law works
Statutory redundancy pay needs two years of service. Each full year is counted backwards from your age on the redundancy date, so the weeks are weighted by the age you were in each year. Pay is capped at £751 a week from April 2026 and a maximum of 20 years, so the most you can get by law is £22,530.
Example
At 42 with 8 years of service the weeks are 8 times 1.5, which is 12 weeks, so on £700 a week the pay is £8,400.
Notes
Some contracts and company schemes pay more. The first £30,000 of redundancy pay is free of income tax but not always NI.
