About this tool

Open tar, tar.gz, tgz and similar archives in your browser. Nothing is uploaded: the archive is opened by a small WebAssembly library inside your browser, so passwords and private contents stay on your device. It handles tar, tar.gz, tgz, bz2 and xz archives. Pick the archive, press open, then download single files or everything as one ZIP.

How to open a TAR.GZ file

Add the archive and press Open archive. The tool reads the file list and shows the names and sizes. Download any file with its own button or take all of them as a ZIP. If the archive is protected, a password box appears.

Why use a browser tool

Many phones and laptops cannot open this format without installing an app. A browser tool works on any device, including a phone, and leaves nothing installed behind.

Limits

The whole archive is unpacked in memory, so very large archives (several hundred MB) may fail on a phone. Some rarely used compression methods and multi-part archives are not supported; for those, use a desktop archiver.

Safety

Only open archives you trust. Files from unknown senders can carry harmful programs; extracting them here does not run anything, but be careful what you open afterwards.

Tips voor het beste resultaat
