About this tool

Make a video file smaller by lowering quality and size. The conversion runs inside your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so the file is not uploaded and there is no account, queue or watermark. Add the file, choose the quality and press convert. The first run downloads the converter once; after that it starts quickly.

How it works

Your browser loads the FFmpeg engine from this site, reads the file from your device and writes the result back to your device. Processing happens on your own processor, so speed depends on your computer or phone and on the length of the file. Short clips finish in seconds; a one hour video can take several minutes.

Quality and size

Higher quality means a larger file. For speech, 96 to 128 kbps is plenty; for music choose 192 kbps or more. For video, the balanced setting is a good start, and you can lower the maximum width to get a much smaller file for chat apps.

Limits

Browsers have limited memory, so files above about 400 MB are not accepted here. If a file fails, try a shorter clip or another format. Some rare codecs are not supported.

Privacy

Because nothing is uploaded, private recordings, family videos and meetings stay on your device. Close the tab and the data is gone.
