About this tool
Enter your birth year to see your Chinese zodiac animal (Rat, Ox, Tiger and so on), the element and whether the year is yin or yang. The Chinese year starts at the Lunar New Year, between late January and mid February, so people born in January or February should check that date.
Frequently asked questions
How does the cycle work?
There are twelve animals that repeat every twelve years, and five elements that pair with them in a sixty-year cycle.
Why can my animal be different?
If you were born before the Lunar New Year, your animal is the one of the previous year.
