About this tool

Choose Simplify to reduce a ratio such as 12 : 18 to 2 : 3 and see each part as a percentage. Choose Solve to find the missing number x in a : b = c : x, useful for recipes, maps, scaling and exchange problems.

Worked example

A recipe uses 2 cups of rice for 3 cups of water. For 5 cups of rice you need x water where 2 : 3 = 5 : x, so x is 7.5 cups. Cross multiply and divide to solve.
