EU VAT
Each EU country sets its own standard rate, from 17 percent in Luxembourg to 27 percent in Hungary. Pick a country, enter a price and add or remove VAT. Reduced rates for food, books and hotels are lower and are not applied here.
Ireland
Income tax is 20 percent up to €44,000 for a single person and 40 percent above, with €4,000 of credits. USC (0.5 to 8 percent) and PRSI (about 4.2 percent) come off as well. On €55,000 the net is about €41,500.
IBAN
An IBAN is valid if its length matches the country and the mod-97 check gives 1. The tool catches typing errors but cannot tell whether the account exists. Confirm payee details before you send money.
Time zones and Easter
Europe has western, central and eastern time zones, and the EU and UK change clocks on the last Sundays of March and October. Easter falls between 22 March and 25 April in the Western church, and Orthodox Easter is usually later.
Sizes and exchange rates
European clothing sizes differ from UK and US. EU 38 is UK 10 and US 6 for a women's dress. For currency, type the rate you are offered to see exactly what you will receive after the fee.
Frequently asked questions
