How to Round the Corners of a Picture or Make It a Circle (With Transparency)

Rounded corners make a picture feel friendly and modern. They are used for app icons, avatars, cards and thumbnails.

Quick answer

Choose a picture and drag the slider to set the corner roundness. At the highest value, a square becomes a circle (or a rectangle becomes an ellipse). The corners are transparent in the PNG so the picture sits well on any background.

Common settings

  • Slight rounding (5 to 10 percent): modern card style.
  • Medium (20 to 30 percent): app-icon style.
  • Full: circle avatar for profile photos.

Steps

  1. Open the tool and add a picture.
  2. Drag the slider until it looks right.
  3. Download as PNG.

Why PNG

Transparency needs PNG (or WebP). If you save as JPG the corners fill with white.

Tips

  • Crop your picture to a square first for a perfect circle.
  • Put the rounded picture on a coloured background to check the transparency.
  • For a border around the rounded shape, use Add Border to Image.
  • Use the Profile Photo Maker if you also need a standard avatar size.
  • Keep the original; once corners are removed the cut-off area cannot be restored.

Where it is used

Social profiles, WhatsApp-style avatars, team pages, presentation slides and product cards.
