How to Calculate a Tip and Split the Bill Between People
Work out 10, 15, 18, 20 or 25 percent tip and see what each person pays, with a quick method you can do in your head.

Tipping customs differ from country to country. In the US 15 to 20 percent is normal, in the UK 10 to 12.5 percent is often added as a service charge, and in many countries a tip is optional. Whatever the custom, the calculation is quick.
Quick answer
Enter the bill, tap the tip percentage (10, 15, 18, 20, 25 or your own) and the number of people. You see the tip, the total and each person's share.
Quick mental method
- 10 percent: move the decimal point one place left. On 84.50, that is 8.45.
- 20 percent: double the 10 percent: 16.90.
- 15 percent: 10 percent plus half of it: 8.45 + 4.23 = 12.68.
Example
Bill 84.50, tip 15 percent, four people.
- Tip = 12.68
- Total = 97.18
- Each pays = 24.30
Steps
- Enter the bill amount.
- Choose the tip percentage.
- Enter how many people share.
- Read the totals.
Tips
- Check if service is already included on the bill.
- Calculate the tip on the pre-tax amount if you prefer; many people use the total.
- Round up per person to make payment simpler.
- For uneven splits (one person had more), use the Bill Splitter.
Currency
The tool works for any currency: pounds, dollars, euros or taka.
