About this tool

Enter your yearly income, your total old-regime deductions (80C, 80D, HRA and so on), your age group and whether you are salaried. The calculator applies the slabs, the standard deduction, the rebate under section 87A, the surcharge and the 4% cess for both regimes and shows the difference.

New regime (default)

Slabs for FY 2025-26: up to ₹4 lakh nil, ₹4 to 8 lakh 5%, ₹8 to 12 lakh 10%, ₹12 to 16 lakh 15%, ₹16 to 20 lakh 20%, ₹20 to 24 lakh 25% and above ₹24 lakh 30%. The standard deduction is ₹75,000 for salaried taxpayers, and there is a rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income tax free (up to ₹60,000).

Old regime

Slabs: up to ₹2.5 lakh nil (₹3 lakh for ages 60 to 79, ₹5 lakh for 80 and over), ₹2.5 to 5 lakh 5%, ₹5 to 10 lakh 20% and above ₹10 lakh 30%, with a standard deduction of ₹50,000 and a rebate of up to ₹12,500 for taxable income up to ₹5 lakh. Deductions such as 80C, 80D and HRA reduce income.

Surcharge and cess

Surcharge of 10%, 15%, 25% (and 37% in the old regime above ₹5 crore) applies on tax for high incomes; marginal relief is not modeled. Cess is 4%.

Worked example

Income of ₹15 lakh with ₹2 lakh of old-regime deductions: under the new regime taxable income is ₹14.25 lakh and tax with cess is ₹97,500; under the old regime taxable income is ₹12.5 lakh and tax is ₹195,000. The new regime saves ₹97,500.

Tips for best results

Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
