About this tool
Enter your estimated tax for the year after TDS and the advance tax you paid by each due date. The calculator shows what should have been paid by 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March and the interest under section 234C on any shortfall.
Due dates
Individuals with tax of ₹10,000 or more after TDS pay in instalments: 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December and 100% by 15 March (cumulative). Taxpayers under the presumptive scheme may pay everything by 15 March.
Interest
Section 234C charges 1% a month on the shortfall: three months for the first three instalments and one month for the last. There is no interest on the first instalment if 12% was paid by 15 June, and none on the second if 36% was paid by 15 September.
Not included
Interest under 234B for paying less than 90% of the tax by year end, 234A for late filing and the effect of capital gains made after a due date.
Worked example
Tax of ₹2,00,000 with payments of ₹20,000 by June, ₹60,000 by September, ₹40,000 by December and ₹80,000 by March: shortfalls of ₹10,000, ₹10,000 and ₹30,000 at the first three dates, and interest of ₹1,200 (the second shortfall escapes interest because 36% was paid).
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
