Type your numbers or text, add your file, or pick the options you need. Nothing is uploaded: everything stays in your browser.
- 2Step 2: What Corrected Calcium Calculator (Albumin) does
Correct a total calcium result for low albumin.
- 3Step 3: Read the result and compare
The result appears at once. Change one value to see how the answer moves, then keep the figure that fits your case.
- 4Step 4: Copy or save it
Copy the result or download it. For an important decision, confirm it with the official source or an adviser.
About this tool
Enter the measured total calcium in mg/dL and the albumin in g/dL. The calculator gives the albumin-corrected calcium.
Formula
Corrected calcium (mg/dL) = measured calcium + 0.8 × (4.0 − albumin in g/dL). The correction adds calcium because low albumin lowers the total calcium without lowering the active ionized calcium.
Limits
The formula is an estimate and is less reliable in critical illness, kidney disease and with some acid-base disorders. When it matters, ionized calcium should be measured. Normal total calcium is about 8.5 to 10.5 mg/dL.
For information only. It does not replace a clinician's judgement or local protocols.
Worked example
A calcium of 8.0 mg/dL with albumin of 2.5 g/dL is corrected by +1.2 to 9.2 mg/dL.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.

Frequently asked questions
Why correct calcium?
Most blood calcium travels bound to albumin, so low albumin makes total calcium look low.
What about mmol/L?
Use the formula in mmol/L: calcium + 0.02 × (40 − albumin in g/L).
Is the correction accurate?
Not always; ionized calcium is the reference.
Normal albumin?
About 3.5 to 5.0 g/dL.
