Quick answer
| Question | Tool |
|---|---|
| What hourly rate should I charge? | Freelance Hourly Rate Calculator |
| Are my ads profitable? | ROAS Calculator |
| What are my CTR, CPC and CPA? | CTR Calculator |
| What can I charge on a late invoice? | UK Late Payment Interest Calculator |
Hourly rate
Take the income you want, add business costs, gross it up for tax and divide by the hours you can actually bill. With $60,000 target income, $6,000 of costs, 25 percent tax and 25 billable hours for 46 weeks, the rate is about $77 an hour. Billable hours are usually fewer than people expect.
ROAS and break-even
Return on ad spend is revenue divided by spend. Break-even ROAS is one divided by your margin, so at a 40 percent margin you need 2.5 just to cover costs. The tool also shows ROI and profit after ads.
CTR, CPC and CPA
CTR is clicks over impressions. Conversion rate is conversions over clicks. CPC is cost per click and CPA is cost per conversion. Together they show where a campaign leaks money.
Late payment
UK businesses can charge 8 percent over base rate on a late business invoice plus a fixed fee of £40, £70 or £100.
Tips
- Quote projects by value when you can, not only by the hour.
- Track margin before you decide what ROAS is good.
- State late payment terms on every invoice.
