You take a photo on an iPhone, send it to a Windows computer or upload it to a website, and nothing happens. The file ends in .heic and the other device cannot open it. This is one of the most common small frustrations of modern phones, and it has a very simple solution: convert the HEIC picture to JPG, the format that works everywhere.

The free HEIC to JPG tool does this in seconds, for one picture or up to 20 at once.

Quick answer

Open HEIC to JPG, add your iPhone pictures, press convert and download. A single picture comes back as a JPG; several come together in one ZIP file. The orientation of each picture is kept correct.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's picture format. It stores photos at good quality in a much smaller file than JPG, which saves space on the phone. The trade-off is compatibility: many older computers, Android phones, email systems and online forms cannot open or accept it.

JPG is the opposite. It is slightly larger, but every device, website, printer and form understands it.

When you need to convert

  • A form or job portal says "JPG or PNG only".
  • You are sharing photos with someone who uses Windows or Android.
  • A photo shop or printing service cannot read your files.
  • You want to edit a picture in software that does not support HEIC.
  • You need to reduce the size or resize the photo for a form.

How to convert HEIC to JPG, step by step

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG tool.
  2. Choose your pictures, or drag them in. You can add up to 20 in one go.
  3. Press convert.
  4. Download the JPG, or the ZIP if you converted several.

You will see that each file keeps its original name with the .jpg extension, so they are easy to match.

Change the iPhone setting instead?

You can tell the iPhone itself to save new photos as JPG: go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose "Most Compatible". This avoids the problem for future pictures, but it makes files larger and does not help with the photos you already have. Converting is still needed for existing HEIC files.

After converting

Often the next requirement is a size or a KB limit. Here is the usual order:

  1. Convert to JPG with this tool.
  2. Resize to the pixel size the form wants with Resize Image.
  3. Reduce the KB with Reduce Image Size in KB if there is a limit.
  4. Combine several pictures into one document with JPG to PDF.

Does conversion lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a conversion is technically not perfect. At the quality used here the difference is not visible in everyday use. Keep the original HEIC file if you may want to edit it again later.

Privacy

Your photos are used only for the conversion. The originals are deleted after processing and the results are removed automatically shortly afterwards. No account is needed and pictures are not stored in a database. See the privacy policy.
