Choose the country and enter a price. The calculator adds VAT at the country's standard rate or removes it from a gross price and shows the net, the VAT and the total. Reduced rates for food, books and hotels are lower and are not used here.

Standard rates in the EU

Every EU country sets its own VAT rate with a minimum of 15 percent. Standard rates run from 17 percent in Luxembourg to 27 percent in Hungary. Many countries also have reduced rates for items such as food, books, transport and hotels.

Example

€100 net in Germany at 19 percent becomes €119. A gross price of €119 in Germany contains €19 of VAT.

For businesses

Cross-border sales of goods and services to consumers can fall under the One Stop Shop scheme. Business-to-business sales with a valid VAT number are usually zero-rated and reverse charged.
