Enter a length and choose the direction. One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres. The tool also shows the nearest sixteenth of an inch, useful for measuring and woodworking.

The formula

Inches = centimetres ÷ 2.54. Centimetres = inches × 2.54.

Examples

10 cm is 3.94 in, 30 cm is 11.81 in, 50 cm is 19.69 in and 100 cm is 39.37 in. A standard A4 sheet is 21 by 29.7 cm, or 8.27 by 11.69 in.

Fractions

Tape measures use fractions of an inch down to sixteenths. The tool rounds to the nearest sixteenth to help you read them.

Common sizes

A4 is 21 x 29.7 cm, a passport photo is 3.5 x 4.5 cm, a smartphone is about 15 cm tall and a ruler is 30 cm. Divide by 2.54 for inches.
