About this tool
Enter your monthly basic salary and the overtime hours worked. The calculator works out the hourly basic rate for a 44-hour week, the overtime rate of 1.5 times and the overtime pay.
The rules
Part 4 of the Employment Act covers workmen with a basic salary up to S$4,500 a month and other employees up to S$2,600. Overtime is work beyond the normal hours, 44 hours a week or 8 hours a day for a 5-day week. The overtime rate is at least 1.5 times the hourly basic rate.
Hourly basic rate
Hourly basic rate = 12 × monthly basic salary ÷ (52 × 44). Basic salary excludes allowances that are not part of basic pay and overtime itself.
Limits
Overtime is capped at 72 hours a month. Rest days and public holidays have separate rules. This tool covers the standard overtime rate only.
Worked example
A monthly basic salary of S$2,400 gives an hourly basic rate of S$12.59 and an overtime rate of S$18.88. Ten overtime hours pay S$188.81.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
