About this tool

Enter the yearly deposit (up to ₹1.5 lakh), the interest rate and your daughter's age. The calculator shows the total deposits over 15 years, the interest earned and the maturity value at 21 years.

How the scheme works

A Sukanya Samriddhi account can be opened for a girl under 10. Deposits can be made for 15 years, from ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh a year. The account matures 21 years after it is opened.

The model

The tool assumes one deposit at the start of each year for 15 years and compounds the balance yearly at the rate you enter until year 21. In reality the post office works out interest monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, so the result is slightly different.

Interest rate

The government sets the rate every quarter. It was 8.2% in 2025. The interest is tax free under the Exempt-Exempt-Exempt (EEE) rule and deposits qualify under section 80C of the old regime.

Worked example

Depositing ₹1.5 lakh a year for 15 years at 8.2% gives ₹22.5 lakh paid in and a maturity value of about ₹71.8 lakh at year 21, of which about ₹49.3 lakh is interest.

Tips for best results

Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
