About this tool
Enter your yearly income, your MPF contributions, whether you are married and how many children you have. The calculator subtracts the MPF deduction and allowances, works out the tax at progressive rates and at the standard rate, and shows the lower one, which is what you pay.
Two ways
For 2024/25 progressive rates on net chargeable income are 2% on the first HK$50,000, 6% on the next HK$50,000, 10%, 14%, and 17% on the rest. The standard rate is 15% on net income (16% above HK$5,000,000) without allowances. You pay the lower of the two.
Allowances
Basic allowance HK$132,000, married person's allowance HK$264,000 and HK$130,000 for each child (a higher amount in the year of birth). Other allowances for parents and disabled dependants are not included.
MPF deduction
Mandatory MPF contributions are deductible up to HK$18,000. Tax reductions announced in the budget each year are not included.
Worked example
A salary of HK$600,000 with HK$18,000 of MPF deduction and a single person's allowance of HK$132,000 has net chargeable income of HK$450,000. Tax at progressive rates is HK$58,500, below HK$87,300 at the standard rate, so HK$58,500 is due, an effective rate of 9.75%.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.
