About this tool
Enter your balance and current APR, the transfer fee, the promotional period, the rate after the promotion and your monthly payment. The calculator shows how long it takes to pay off and the interest on each path, and the net saving after the fee.
How the transfer works
The transfer fee (often 3% to 5%) is added to the balance. During the promotional months the balance earns no interest, so every payment goes to principal. After the promotion the remaining balance is charged the regular APR.
What it assumes
The same monthly payment is made on both paths, no new purchases are made and the regular rate does not change. The saving is the interest you avoid minus the fee.
Tips
Try to pay the whole balance before the promotion ends. Make the payment automatic, because missing one can end the 0% rate. Check whether a new card is worth opening: it can affect your credit score for a time.
Worked example
$8,000 at 24.99% paid at $450 a month is cleared in 23 months with $2,096 of interest. Moving it to a card with a 3% fee ($240) and 18 months at 0%, the same payment leaves about $140 after the promotion, which costs about $3 of interest, so you save about $1,854 net.
Tips for best results
Check every box before you rely on a result, because one wrong digit changes the whole answer. Use the exact figures from your payslip, bill, certificate or contract, and keep a note of the date you calculated. Rates, thresholds and rules change from time to time, so for tax, fees and legal matters treat the output as an estimate and confirm with the official source named on this page. You can run as many scenarios as you like; nothing is saved or sent, and refreshing the page clears the boxes.

Frequently asked questions
Is the transfer fee worth it?
If the interest you avoid is higher than the fee, yes. The tool shows the net saving.
What if I cannot pay it off in the promotion?
Then the rest earns the regular rate. Try a higher monthly payment to see the effect.
Can I transfer between cards from the same bank?
Usually not. Balance transfers must be from another issuer.
Will it hurt my credit?
A new card causes a small temporary dip, but paying down the balance can help your score over time.
