How to Find the Day of the Week for Any Date (Past or Future)
Find out what weekday a date falls on, like your birthday or a historical event, with the day number in the year.

Someone asks what day you were born, or you need to check whether next 21 February falls on a weekend. The Day of the Week Finder answers it at once.
Quick answer
Pick a date and the tool shows the weekday and the day number of the year. It works for dates in the past and the future.
Why people look this up
- Birthdays and anniversaries, for fun or for family records.
- Planning events such as weddings and exams.
- History and genealogy, to check a document's date.
- Deadlines, to know if the due date lands on a Friday or Saturday.
How the weekday is found
Calendars follow a pattern that repeats. A well-known method is Zeller's congruence, which computes the weekday from the year, month and day. The tool uses the Gregorian calendar for all dates.
Example
- 16 December 1971 was a Thursday.
- 26 March 1971 was a Friday.
Steps
- Choose a day, month and year.
- Read the weekday and the day number of the year (1 to 365 or 366).
Notes
- Dates before the Gregorian calendar's adoption (1582 in some countries, much later in others) may not match historical records written in the Julian calendar.
- Public holidays vary by country; use a holiday calendar for those.
For counting days between two dates, use the date difference calculator.
