How to Estimate the Fuel Cost of a Trip and Share It Between People
Enter the distance, your vehicle's km per litre and the fuel price to get the trip cost, with tolls, parking and a per-person split.

A road trip with friends or colleagues needs a clear cost so that nobody argues afterwards. The calculation takes seconds.
Quick answer
Enter the distance, your vehicle's kilometres per litre and the fuel price. Tick round trip to double the distance. Add tolls or parking and the number of people to see each share.
The formula
Fuel cost = (distance ÷ km per litre) × price per litre
Example: 240 km one way, round trip 480 km, car does 12 km/l, fuel 125 taka a litre.
- Litres = 480 ÷ 12 = 40
- Fuel cost = 40 × 125 = 5,000 taka
- Tolls and parking: 700 taka
- Total = 5,700 taka
- Split between 4 people = 1,425 taka each
Steps
- Enter the distance.
- Tick round trip if needed.
- Enter km per litre and fuel price.
- Add other costs and people.
- Read the cost and each share.
Be realistic about economy
Brochure figures are optimistic. City driving, air conditioning, heavy loads and hills reduce km/l by 10 to 25 percent. Use your own fill-up records for the most accurate number.
Fair sharing tips
- Include driver's wear and tear as a small extra if the trip is long.
- Agree the split before the trip.
- Consider paying the driver's share as part of the host's gift for a shared car.
