How to Blur Faces and Number Plates in a Photo Before You Share It
Hide faces, number plates, addresses and screenshot details by blurring or pixelating areas of an image. Free, in your browser.
A photo shared on social media can reveal more than you intend: a child's face in the background, a car number plate, a house number on a door, an email address on a screenshot. Blurring or pixelating those parts takes a minute and protects the people in the picture.
Quick answer
Open the picture, draw a box over each sensitive area, choose blur or pixelate, and download. You can hide as many areas as you like and undo the last one.
Blur or pixelate?
- Pixelate turns the area into coarse blocks. It is clear that something has been hidden and is hard to reverse at strong levels.
- Blur is smooth and looks softer. For text or very small details use a strong amount; a light blur can still be readable.
Whichever you pick, increase the strength until you cannot read or recognise the content yourself.
What to hide
- Faces of people who did not agree to be shared, especially children.
- Vehicle number plates.
- Home addresses, house numbers and street signs.
- Names, phone numbers and emails on screens and documents.
- Barcodes, QR codes, ID numbers and bank details.
Steps
- Choose your image.
- Pick the effect and strength.
- Drag boxes over each area.
- Check the preview at full size.
- Download the new image and share that file, not the original.
Important
The hidden parts are changed in the file you download, so they cannot be restored from the new picture. Keep the original somewhere private if you may need it later. Do not use solid colour tricks like a thin highlighter in a screenshot; use real blur or pixelation.
The picture is processed on your device and is not uploaded.
