How to Add a Watermark to a PDF: Confidential, Draft or Your Name
Stamp text such as Confidential or your business name across every page of a PDF, with your choice of colour, size, angle and opacity.
A watermark is faint text across the page that tells readers something about the document: that it is a draft, that it is confidential, or who it belongs to. Businesses use it to brand price lists, students to mark drafts of a thesis, and individuals to label a copy of an ID "for admission use only" so that it cannot be misused elsewhere.
The free Add Watermark tool stamps any text on every page of your PDF, in Bangla or English.
Quick answer
Open Add Watermark, upload your PDF, type the text, choose colour, size and opacity, pick diagonal or straight and one large mark or a tiled pattern, then download. The mark is applied to every page.
Common watermark uses
- "Draft" or "For review" on unfinished documents so nobody treats them as final.
- "Confidential" on private reports and contracts.
- A business or website name on price lists, brochures and samples.
- "Copy" or "For admission use only" on photocopies of identity documents, which makes misuse harder.
- A date or recipient's name, so you can tell which copy leaked.
How to add a watermark, step by step
- Open the Add Watermark tool.
- Upload your PDF.
- Type the watermark text. Bangla and English both work, including conjunct letters.
- Set the colour, opacity and size.
- Choose the layout: diagonal or straight, and one large mark or a tiled pattern.
- Press the button and download the watermarked PDF.
Choosing settings that work
- Opacity. Light grey at 20 to 30 percent opacity leaves the page readable while still visible. Heavy marks make text hard to read.
- Diagonal placement is the classic look and is hard to crop out.
- Tiled patterns are harder to remove or crop than one central mark, and are good for sensitive copies.
- Size. The mark should span the page but not hide the key content.
- Colour. Use a colour that contrasts gently with the page, such as grey or a soft red.
A watermark is not a lock
It is useful to be realistic. A watermark labels a document and discourages misuse, but it does not prevent copying. The mark becomes part of the page, so it is not easy to remove, but someone with enough effort could still do it. For real access control combine it with a password using Protect PDF, or remove sensitive pages entirely with Remove Pages.
Keep your original
Because the watermark is built into the page, you cannot take it off again from the new file. Always keep your clean original, and save the watermarked version under a new name such as agreement-draft-watermarked.pdf.
Related steps
- Combine documents first with Merge PDF, then watermark the whole bundle.
- Sign a document with Sign PDF before adding a "Copy" mark for distribution.
- Keep the file small with Compress PDF.
Privacy
The PDF is used only to add the mark. The original is deleted after processing and the result is removed automatically shortly afterwards. No account is needed and files are not stored in a database. See the privacy policy.
