About this tool
Estimate your daily calorie needs. The tool uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula to find your basal metabolic rate (the calories you burn at rest), then adjusts for your activity level. It shows a calorie figure to maintain your weight and simple targets to lose or gain about half a kilo a week. This is a guide, not medical advice.
Frequently asked questions
How many calories should I eat to lose weight?
A common starting point is about 500 fewer than your maintenance figure, but never below a safe minimum. Ask a doctor or dietitian for advice.
What is BMR?
BMR is the energy your body needs just to stay alive at rest.
